Three years ago, Signature Cuffs was nothing more than a passing thought. I was scheduled to attend a reception at a prominent law firm and wanted an easy way to transform my professional day suit into an “after five” look. My search for an add-on French cuff turned up no results.

I’ve always been aware of how people present themselves and, most often, it seems to be through their ability to dress appropriately and exude confidence. After three decades in the banking industry I developed a conservative style, but I’ve never believed that conservative had to be synonymous with boring.

The philosophy of style that guides the Signature Cuffs brand today first took shape many years ago when I took the podium as Chair for the Fort Worth Chamber’s Women Influencing Business annual luncheon. More than three hundred people were scheduled to attend, and I was to introduce a young Barbara Bush as the keynote speaker. Standing in a room full of such distinguished women, and aware that the event was being filmed, I wanted everything from my hair to my shoes to make a statement of professional style.

I REALIZED THEN THAT I WANT THAT SAME THING FOR EVERY WOMAN — THE ABILITY TO MERGE PERSONAL STYLE WITH PROFESSIONALISM IN A WAY THAT PRODUCES CONFIDENCE.

Years later, what had been a passing thought of a removable faux-French cuff turned into an idea that wouldn’t let go. As I started talking over the idea of Signature Cuffs with friend and fellow entrepreneur, Carolyn Phillips, she began to walk me through her “Dream to Done” process for putting my idea into action. As a successful business owner and mentor, Carolyn nurtured my entrepreneurial spirit and laid out every step for bringing Signature Cuffs to life.

Late in 2016, I retired from banking and put pen to paper to see if the Signature Cuffs dream could be a reality. I learned the ins and outs of manufacturing, fashion merchandising, prototypes and production. As I began to realize that my dream was doable, I quickly assembled a great team of talent. While each step brings a new set of challenges, we continually surprise ourselves with new accomplishments. Having a blast in this new role of fun, flare and fashion, I’m enjoying every step of this entrepreneurial journey.
